Founder & Artistic Director
Ziva's Spanish Dance Ensemble captivates audiences with Spanish dances that range from the fiery and seductive flamenco of Andalusia to the spirited jota, folk dances of Aragon. Ziva also blends traditional Spanish with modern dance, resulting in unique neoclassical choreography.
The Ensemble was established in 1995. It began with a handful of flamenco dancers and has developed successively throughout the years. The Ensemble's dancers have diverse and international backgrounds. Most have previous dance experience in dance forms such as ballet, modern, belly dance, ballroom, and folkorico.
Ziva explores the roots of flamenco while also incorporating other dance forms in to the Ensemble's performances. Guest artists have come from a variety of dance and musical fields such as jazz, modern, tap, Indian, African, and Moorish.
The Ensemble has appeared in a variety of venues in the Washington, DC area including the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Publick Playhouse, Lisner Auditorium, the Alden Theatre (McClean, VA), the Jack Guidone Theater at the Joy of Motion Dance Center and First Night Annapolis. The Ensemble's ability to charm its audiences has resulted in many repeat performances.
Ziva's Spanish Dance Ensemble provides programs for diverse audiences, including embassies, the Spanish ambassador's residence as well as numerous private engagements throughout the region. In 2001, the Ensemble received the First Metro DC Dance Award for "Outstanding Production in Multicultural/World Dance," for it's March 2001 production of "El Camino del Fuego."
